There are some engagement sessions that feel less like a photo session and more like stepping into a memory before it has even fully happened yet.
Reagan and Matt’s engagement session in the South of France was one of those.
The day before their elopement, we drove into a small town tucked even deeper into the South of France. It was quiet, charming, and honestly looked like the live action version of Beauty and the Beast in the best way. Cobblestone streets, old stone buildings, little corners that felt untouched, and that kind of soft European light that makes everything feel a little more romantic without even trying.
It was the perfect place for engagement photos because it already felt like part of their story.

When people think about engagement photos, they usually picture a local park, a downtown location, or maybe somewhere sentimental close to home. And those can be beautiful. But Reagan and Matt’s session was such a good reminder that your engagement photos do not have to look like anyone else’s.
They can happen somewhere meaningful.
Somewhere adventurous.
Somewhere that feels like a once-in-a-lifetime memory.
For Reagan and Matt, that meant taking engagement photos in a small village in the South of France before heading back to the château where they would get married the very next day.
The whole session felt relaxed and easy. We wandered through the town, stopped when the light looked good, and let the location do what it already did so well. Nothing felt overly posed or forced. Just the two of them, in this beautiful place, soaking in the beginning of their wedding celebration.

One thing I love about destination engagement sessions is that they give you space to slow down.
When you are already traveling somewhere beautiful, the photos become part of the experience instead of another thing on the wedding checklist. You are not just squeezing in a session after work or rushing to beat traffic. You are walking through a new place together, taking it all in, and letting the photos document that season of your life in a way that feels really personal.
That is what I loved so much about Reagan and Matt’s session.
Their wedding weekend was not just about the ceremony the next day. It was about the full experience. The travel, the town, the château, the quiet in-between moments, and the feeling of being somewhere unforgettable together.
Those are the kinds of photos that feel different years later. Not because they were taken somewhere impressive, but because they hold the feeling of the whole season.

After spending time in the village, we also took photos around the château where Reagan and Matt would elope the next day.
And truly, there is something so special about photographing a couple in the place where they are about to get married.
The anticipation is already there. The excitement is starting to settle in. Everything feels close, but not rushed yet. It gave them a chance to have photos at their wedding location without the full pace of the wedding day timeline.
The château was elegant and beautiful, but the photos still felt like them. That is always the goal. Whether we are in Dallas, Fort Worth, the South of France, or anywhere else in the world, I never want the location to overpower the couple. The location should support the story, not become the whole story.
For Reagan and Matt, the château added so much meaning because it was not just a beautiful backdrop. It was the place where they would become husband and wife the next day.

Engagement photos can be so much more than a photo for your wedding website or save-the-date.
They can be a way to document a trip.
A way to celebrate the place where you are getting married.
A way to make your wedding week feel even more intentional.
A way to have photos together in a location you may never get to return to in the same way again.
If you are planning a destination wedding, elopement, or even just a trip somewhere beautiful before your wedding, an engagement session can be one of the most meaningful ways to document that experience.
You do not have to wait until the wedding day to have photos that feel important.

If you are dreaming about engagement photos in a place that feels different, whether that is France, Italy, New York City, the mountains, the beach, or a tiny town that means something to you, the biggest thing is this:
Choose a place that feels like a memory you want to keep.
It does not have to be the most famous location. It does not have to be the most dramatic view. Sometimes the best photos come from the small streets, the quiet corners, the place you wandered into unexpectedly, or the spot that feels like it belongs to your story.
Reagan and Matt’s South of France engagement session was beautiful because the location was beautiful, yes. But it was also beautiful because it felt relaxed, intentional, and true to them.
And that will always matter more than chasing the “perfect” backdrop.

If you are planning engagement photos somewhere meaningful, I would love to help you document it in a way that feels honest, nostalgic, and true to you.
Whether you are getting married in Dallas-Fort Worth, eloping in Europe, planning a destination wedding, or wanting engagement photos somewhere that feels like part of your story, your photos deserve to feel like more than just pretty pictures.
They should feel like a memory you can come back to.
Reagan and Matt’s engagement session in the South of France was such a beautiful reminder that your photos can be as personal, adventurous, and meaningful as your story already is.
If you are dreaming of engagement photos in a place that feels special to you, I would love to be considered as your destination engagement and wedding photographer.
